If 'Limit Segment Size to 2 GB' is checked under the 'Performance Tuning' tab in the Pervasive Control Center, .BTR files that are of sizes above 2 GB get split or partitioned into smaller files with the file extensions of *.^0*. The process to combine these partitioned file segments is to do a butil recovery through the command prompt and then load.
Here is an example for Comments.BTR:
Open a DOS prompt and navigate to the folder containing the split .BTR files that need to be merged back into one file.
Once in the correct file loctions at the DOS prompt type in the following:
- >butil -stat comments.btr
This will give you the total record count. Note this record count so we can verify that all records were merged.
- >butil -recover comments.btr comments.seq
This copies out the records into a sequential file. This will automatically include any *.^0* files.
- Rename the original 'Comments.BTR' file to 'Comments.org.BTR' and then create a new empty 'Comments.BTR' file through FOS.
- Back in the DOS command prompt type the following:
'>butil -load comments.seq comments.btr' and hit enter. This will load all of the records for the .BTR files and the extension files into one file - 'Comments.BTR'
This completes the merging of all the partitioned files into one consolidated .BTR file that will be ready to use. Once this is finished compare the stat record counts that were noted down with recovered record counts and with the loaded record counts. These counts should be the same.
